Why Police quizzed Imo PDP deputy governorship candidate, Onyereri, others
…Samdaddy failed to honour invite
Facts have emerged to why the deputy governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Hon. Jones Onyereri was summoned by the operatives of the state command, Owerri, yesterday.
The Society Mirror gathered that Onyereri was invited following a petition made by former party’ deputy chairman, Sir Martin Ejiogu, the scribe, Nze Ray Emeana and five others against him, the PDP governorship candidate, Sen. Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy), and seven others.
Meanwhile, Samdaddy was not at the command alongside others to honour the police invitation, a development, many had attributed several reasons to.
The former Imo PDP chieftains, known as Imo G-7 were said to have requested that the police invite Samdaddy, Onyereri and co over claim made by them that they (G-7) mismanaged the One hundred and four Billion Naira, N1.4b, being fund provided for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s election in the state.
Reacting to the petition, one of the petitioners, Collins Opuruozur said it became necessary to set records straight and to ensure that justice is served over the allegations levelled against them since after their defection from the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in the State.
He said, “We have commenced legal offensives against Samdaddy Anyanwu and his cohorts for accusing us of embezzling, mismanaging or at any rate misappropriating the sum of N1.4 Billion which Alhaji Atiku Abubakar gave to his presidential campaign council in the State for the last presidential election.
“We were embarrassed to hear and read that we misappropriated an amount which we neither saw nor touched. The money never even came to us when we were part of the State Working Committee of the Party.”
He continued, “For Samdaddy and his co-travellers to accuse us of something we know nothing about shows the true character of those masquerading as public office seekers.
“We have taken this legal step to ensure that justice is done in this matter. And we must never rest until justice is done and also seen to have been done” – Imo G-7 members, while speaking to the press at the Headquarters of Imo State Police Command, Owerri, today.”
Meanwhile, speaking to newsmen over the summon shortly after leaving the police command, Onyereri who described the petition cum allegations against them as spurious and infantile, adding that the APC only wants to use it to distract the opposition party from the electionering task ahead.

He stated that the success of the recent LGA tours which he and Samdaddy embarked upon, and the mileage the PDP campaigns have gained so far, have surprised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State.
The two-time member of the House of Representatives furthered that he and Samdaddy were impressed by the unwavering support of the masses, adding that they will stop at nothing in the quest to take back the state from reclaiming power in the state come November 11th.
He said, “This is a mere distraction. I conceive that they didn’t believe that our tours will be hugely successful. They are not happy with our strong political mileage so far,” he said.
“But their antics will not work because the police officers we met today, including the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the OC Human Rights are well-trained and they will do the right thing. A more serious government and party will not resort to pettiness. ”
“Obviously, they know that the PDP is close to the Douglas House. This project is propelled by God to liberate Imo State,” he added.
