Why I prefer cash empowerment – Ugo Sly reveals

… insist that Owerri Zone lacks a voice in the Senate

Owerri Senate hopeful, Prince Ugochukwu Nwachukwu (Ugo Sly), have revealed by he said he prefers cash empowerment, when empowering people.

Ugo Sly was speaking to journalists upon his return to Owerri, the Imo State capital, on his plans for the people of Owerri Zone, who he hopes to represent in the Red Chambers.

Ugo Sly assured Owerri people of a firm voice in the Red Chambers, if he is given the chance to represent the people.

“We lack a voice,” Ugo Sly insisted. “Nobody is speaking for us. How many times do you hear contributions or motions moved by those who say we sent them to represent us?

“I will be that voice that is lacking in the Senate, not just for Nde Owerri, but for Imo State and the entire South East if necessary.

“With the problems facing us at this time especially pertaining to insecurity, one would expect support for the Imo State government, ably led by Gov Hope Uzodinma, from our people in Abuja. But we hear nothing. Silence. Uzodinma is fighting for the well-being of the people of Imo State alone. That is one of the things I’m going to change when I get to the Red Chambers.”

When asked why he said he would do cash empowerment during one of his public outings, Ugo Sly said, “I for one do not believe that giving a graduate a keke bus or okada is empowerment. How can you give an okada to a man who has passion for sewing and believe you have empowered him? Rather than sharing keke napep or mini buses or okada or sewing machines to people who may not appreciate those things, I would prefer to monetise my empowerment and give everybody I am empowering, the chance to invest in what he or she wants to do and not what I think they want to do. Rather than giving him keke napep or okada, I’ll give him cash with which he will probably go into poultry farming which was probably his passion where he would do better. That my friends is real empowerment and that’s how Ugo Sly empowers people.”
