Who stood for Ursula

Ursula enjoyed the backing of the  three mainstream, pro-EU groups; the center-right European People’s Party, the Socialists and the liberals of Renew. However, in the week before the election, Ursula had lost the backing and supports of some Centrist lawmakers. They had in their collective voice noted that they will not be voting her into the office for the second term. Strategically, she had to embrace supports from outside her current coalition, including the left-leaning Greens. After winning, Ursula enjoys the support of both the European Council and the European Parliament. It is time to forge a new path for the European Commission.

Jubilations and congratulatory messages poured in from leaders across the European bloc and it’s allies. However, the conservative leaders such as Hungary Viktor Orban and Italy Giorgia Meloni have maintained silence. Asked why he remained silent, Meloni has noted that despite backing Ursula in the past few weeks has dropped such backing because she holds almost a view that  may not go down well with his.

This is a difficult time for the EU and it’s allies giving the war in Ukraine. Ursula noted that she would strengthen the following areas:
