Okewulonu, Araraume battle for 192 Okigwe delegates

Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri

Emma Okewulonu and Ifeanyi Araraume are in last minutes horse trading to win the hearts of the 192 delegates who will determine the Peoples Democratic Party flag bearer for Imo North( Okigwe zone) for the 2023 general election.

The primary election takes place today at the Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri, the state capital.

Okewulonu, who was the senatorial candidate of PDP for Imo North bye-election in 2020 hails from Obowo Local Government Area of the state according to political commentators is the man to beat at the primary but Araraume, a former Commissioner for Commerce and Industry and son of a former Senator, Ifeanyi Araraume, who hails from Isiala Mbano LGA, is giving Okewulonu a run for his money.

A party faithful wh confided in our correspondent said that Araraume’s spending capacity had changed the narrative.

The source said ” Ifeanyi Araraume Junior is giving Chief Emma Okewulonu a run for his money. The young man is really consulting. His spending power and ability to penetrate all the camps in the six LGAs are really doing the magic for him.

“He would have lost even before the commencement of the primary had statutory delegates been part of the primary election. This adhoc delegates primary is a huge advantage for him but Chief Emma Okewulonu is the man to beat.

” Emma has been there for the party in the zone and many members of the party think that he should be supported to fly the flag of the party in the zone again considering how he was rigged out by APC during the 2020 Okigwe zone bye-election.”
