It’s Fake News, I Don’t Want VP Slot- Peter Obi Insists
Former Governor of Anambra State and a 2023 Presidential running on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Mr Peter Obi has dismissed claims that he was negotiating for the Vice President slot.
Obi while speaking through his Campaign Organisation, ‘ Peter Obi Support Network (POSN)’ , dismisser the reports whic was published on some dailies, as ‘ arrant nonsense.
In a statement issued by the organization and signed by the National Co- ordinator, Comrade Sani Saeed Altukry, Obi’ s campaign organization stated that the presidential ambition of the former Anambra governor was non- negotiable.
The organization called on the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, to avoid playing to the gallery as it concerns the unity of Nigeria, stating that Peter Obi’ s ambition was not just about winning the election but that was was primarily about unifying the country.
The organisation warned against any attempt to foist a northern candidate on the party members, insisting that such move would spell doom for the party and its future.
The organization further pointed out, that PDP was still an opposition party and there was need for the party to be seen as fair in its dealings and ensure equity, if it hoped to win the 2023 general election.
News reports had claimed that former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, himself also a presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, had settled for the former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi as his running mate, for the 2023 Presidential race.
The organization while reacting, statee that it considered the report, which was published in a national newspaper, as ‘ arrant nonsense! “
The organization insisted that Peter Obi wasn’ t in the race to negotiate, rather that he was in the race to win.
The organization labelled the reports as ‘ fake news, reports making the rounds that ” Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was considering Mr Obi as his running mate. “
The organization called out the leadership of the PDP over the issue of zoning, insisting that they should stop playing hide- and- seek over the matter.
Peter Obi was Atiku’ s running mate in the 2019 General Elections.
