Insecurity: Samdaddy Makes Open Confession
• admits insecurity in Imo is politically motivated
■ Imo people call for apology from PDP
In a bizarre development and what seems like an act of God, Samuel Anyanwu (Samdaddy) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday confessed that the insecurity in Imo is politically motivated.
He made the open confession while speaking at the first session of the 11th Synod of the Diocese of Mbaise at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Owutu Parish, Ezinihitte Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo State.
Samdaddy, in a press release by his media aide, Ikenna Onuoha, said that the loss of power by his party, the PDP, in 2020, is the cause of insecurity in the state.
He said: “In the cause of subverting and scuttling people’s mandates, Imo people became vulnerable to insecurity.”
Samdaddy further confessed that greed for power, especially when his party insisted on regaining power at all cost, is also part of the cause of insecurity in Imo State.
“The level of greed, wickedness, and desperation to retain power at all cost has created an unsecured society leading to unwarranted killings of Imo youths,” he said.
Meanwhile, reactions have trailed Samdaddy’s open confession as Imo people say that his confession was a confirmation of the claim by Governor Hope Uzodimma that insecurity in Imo State is politically motivated.
Speaking to the Nigeria Spectator on Saturday in Owerri, Chief John Okorafo noted that Samdaddy’s confession shows that IImo people deserve apology from the PDP.
He called on Samdaddy to swallow his pride and join in the search for a lasting solution to the politically contrived insecurity in the state since he has admitted such.
According to Chief Okorafo, rather than showing greed for political power, Samdaddy should live by example and lend his support to the governor to end the politically contrived insecurity in the state.
Also, speaking on the matter, Engr. Josiah Eze told Nigeria Spectator that Samdaddy’s open confession has removed the doubts in some quarters about the claims that insecurity in Imo is politically orchestrated.
He said it was unfortunate that desperate politicians who could not manage their loss chose to plunge the state into crisis.
According to Eze, those politicians who chose to unleash mayhem on the state as a result of their loss of political power have no justifications for their actions.
He said that the PDP in Imo was not the first to lose power through the judiciary and wondered why they allowed their loss to plunge the state into insecurity.
While calling on politicians to put the interests of people ahead of their pecuniary interests at all times, Eze called on Samdaddy to stop justifying the insecurity in Imo State with claims of scuttled mandate, adding that aggrieved persons in a political contest are free to go court and seek redress.
He recalled that Samdaddy himself had gone to court to challenge his loss of the governorship primary election in 2018 which he lost to his rival, Emeka Ihedioha. He added that there is nothing wrong with anyone going to court to seek redress over a political contest and that those who lost in such legal contest have no reason resorting to criminality.
He said that no politician is justified to unleash mayhem on any part of the state because he lost power.
Eze said that since Samdaddy knows that insecurity in Imo started when his party lost power, he should be man enough to apologise to Imo people on behalf of his party and seek for forgiveness.
He said that instead of seeking for justification in the house of God, he should seek forgiveness from Imo people and approach God with a contrite heart.
