Insecurity: Madumere advocates for national summit, charge Presidential candidates

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Ezeakonobi Madumere has bemoaned the security situation in Imo State and the country at large, describing it as unfortunate.

He said a national security summit was needed at this point.

Madumere said that the present economic downturn, the crime rate in the land, coupled with the continued ASUU strike, was worrisome.

The ex-governor who celebrated his 58th birthday on July 4, 2022 disclosed this on Tuesday, insisting that Nigerians can get a better deal if only the leaders can make sacrifices.

He said, “As I read with emotions your birthday greetings to me. I call on the Governments, patriots and other stakeholders to rise to the occasion to find a way around the raging vexatious issue.”

While lauding President Buhari for his consistency and unrepentant stance in the fight against terrorism and banditry, he attributed the economic downturn to insecurity, suggesting a convocation of a national security summit.

According to him “While we hail the efforts of the governments at various layers, the military and other relevant security agencies, there is need for an increased motivation for the personnel.

“The situation is dire and we must all join hands to avert greater calamities that befall the country.

“Those jostling to lead Nigeria should know that the task ahead is daunting, especially the area of security and economy.”
