Imo: I was in the Senate With Tinubu’s Wife Remi, How could they let this happen? – Athan Achonu
Senator Athan Achonu, who ran for governor of Imo State as the candidate of the Labour Party in the November 11th Governorship election, has claimed that he continues to have hope in the Nigerian court.
This comes as Senator Achonu attempts to reclaim his mandate in the election petition tribunal after suffering an electoral loss.
According to the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, Governor Hope Uzodimma, who is affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC), emerged victorious in the election that took place on November 11, 2023. He prevailed over notable opponents such as Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party and Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Sun reported that Senator Athan Achonu, in a statement said; “I understand he (President Bola Ahmed Tinubu) is in the same party as Hope Uzodimma. But this country shouldn’t be about party. It should be about the quality of persons. I was in the Senate with the wife of the president, Remi, I know the quality of person that she is. So, how could they allow such a thing to happen under their watch?”.
He went on to say, “Consider Mahmood, the INEC Chairman. Despite being fortunate to have occupied significant roles in the country, INEC has suffered a decline under his leadership.”
He noted, “Does this imply he has lost control? Or is he issuing orders that are not being executed without consequences? If he is no longer in charge, he should openly communicate this to Nigerians instead of pretending to be the INEC chairman while issues persist.”
