Imo Guber: Uzodimma will give me $100m to become his placeholder if I’m hungry – LP candidate Athan Achonu
The factional candidate of Labour Party LP in Imo State, Chief Athan Nneji Achonu, has vehemently denied allegations that he is serving as a placeholder for Governor Hope Uzodimma in the forthcoming Imo governorship election.
Achonu addressed this issue during an interview in Abuja recently, where he expressed confidence in his candidacy and the Labour Party’s prospects in the election.
Achonu dismissed claims that he would accept a one million dollars to step down from the race. He emphasised that if he were indeed considering such a move, he would demand a far larger sum, suggesting a figure of $100 million as a more reasonable amount.
He said, “If you know the level of respect I am accorded in this country because of my integrity and my personality, which he doesn’t have, how can I, Athan Nneji Achonu, collect only one million dollars to sell out as claimed? It is 100 million dollars; if I am that hungry, if I have suddenly become hungry to be Hope Uzodinma’s placeholder, at least I should demand $100 million for God’s sake.”
The senator also argued that the Labour Party is a formidable contender in Imo State, and any candidate from the party would be in a strong position to contest the election. He further stated that he had conducted an opinion poll to gauge the electorate’s sentiments, reinforcing his belief that he could secure victory in the election.
