Imo Govt begins proper documentation of estate developers

The Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Physical Planning, Mr Kezie Ogaziechi, ordered stakeholders in the sector to submit all relevant documents to the ministry for the exercise.

According to a statement issued in Owerri, Ogaziechi gave the directive during a meeting with members of the Imo chapter of Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN).

The statement was signed by the Special Adviser to Gov. Hope Uzodinma on Public Enlightenment, Mr Eze Ugochukwu, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

The commissioner pledged the readiness of his ministry to partner with REDAN to ensure seamless real estate development in the state.

He, however, decried the activities of some estate developers, which “were at variance with the laid down rules regulations”.

Responding, the REDAN Chairman, Dr J.P.K Anyanwu, assured the commissioner that the association would comply with state directives and policies in carrying out its activities.

Anyanwu disclosed that the association had already begun the documentation and data capturing of all the developers with a view to checking quackery and fraudulent practices.
He stated that it would rid the real estate sector of all manner of unwholesome practices.

He further advised prospective land and property buyers to be dilligent and make proper enquiries at the appropriate government agencies to avoid being defrauded.

In a vote of thanks, the National Treasurer of the association, Mr Frank Ajaero, reportedly thanked the state government for recognising REDAN as the umbrella body for real estate developers in the country.
