Ihedioha Set To Support Okorocha’s Presidential Aspiration?

There seems to be a gradual change of gear in the part of the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha, as comments by his close associates and aides, give him that he may be throwing his support behind the Senator Rochas Okorocha Presidential aspiration.

Ihedioha, who is known to be a close ally to the Sokoto State governor, and former Speaker of the National Assembly, Rt Hon Aminu Tambuwal, had in the past shown support for Tambuwal’s presidential aspirations.

However, some posts on the Facebook page of one of his must trusted aides, show that the Mbutu born former governor may now be looking closer to home, for the Number One Citizen of the Nation.

With the close relationship suddenly blossoming between Ihedioha and Okorocha, and Okorocha’s public announcement to run for the seat of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it seems that Ihedioha may be set to back Okorocha’s aspiration.

While both camps have yet to issue a public announcement on the status of their relationship, their body language, along with rumours surrounding them, have given hint of a very close political alignment between the two Imo State born political heavyweights.

Despite his failed outing as governor of Imo State for eight years, Okorocha still has a handful of supporters, and coupled with the vast financial resources available to him, getting his support could provide an edge for Ihedioha in 2023 when he makes what could become his final attempt at becoming Imo State governor.

Rumour has it that Okorocha’s son-in-law, Ugwumba Uche Nwosu, is being prepped to run as his running mate.

Both camps have yet to officially confirm or deny the rumours, even though the Imo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, had denied a rumour that Ihedioha was set to dump the party for the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.

On the other hand, Ihedioha, who enjoys a much large fan base in the state than Okorocha, would be an added bonus to the Ogboko born politican, as he tries to get the presidential ticket of a political party.

It can be recalled that the Imo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress APC, had issued a statement denouncing Okorocha as their member, and denying the purported endorsement of his presidential aspiration.

While Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Chief Anyim Pius Anyim and Governor Dave Umahi, have both declared their interest to run for the seat at Aso Rock, their relationship and political impact to Ihedioha in his quest to become governor in 2023, would be almost zero, leaving Okorocha as the most likely person to receive Ihedioha’s support for the top job from the South East.
