GEJ Will Not Run For President!
by Onwuasoanya FCC Jones
Contrary to rumours making the rounds that former President Goodluck Jonathan has officially joined the governing All Progressives Congress and accepted the “pressure” on him to run for the office of the President in 2023, I have strong reasons that the first and only true PhD holder to rule Nigeria, might have abandoned the idea of returning to Aso Rock, at least at this time.
President Jonathan has not been in the country in the last two days and there is yet to emerge any credible evidence of his joining the governing All Progressives Congress or picking up or filling the presidential nomination forms.
The APC has closed sale of forms and in a few days from now, the dateline for submission of forms would have elapsed. There is at present, no realistic chance for the Otuoke born academic turned politician to finalize the processes of his defection to the APC or filing the nomination processes within time.
I cannot say with any strong authority why the former President abandoned his plans to join the presidential race, but it would be in the interest of his personal integrity and reputation that he continues in his missions as an African Statesman and peace envoy than to bungle his finely placed reputation by allowing himself to be used to shortchange the Southeast in their legitimate bid to produce the next President of Nigeria.
