Atiku Reveals ‘Plan’ For Wike Amidst PDP Crisis
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has described the current crisis rocking the party as a ‘family disagreement.’
Naija News reports Atiku made the submission on Thursday at the 97th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the PDP.
The former vice president however gave assurances that he remains committed to resolving the disagreement which he said is normal in political families.
This news platform reports the PDP has been embroiled in a crisis since the emergence of Atiku as the party’s 2023 presidential candidate with the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike who was defeated at the May primaries in Abuja, feeling cheated and making demands, chief of which among which is the resignation of the national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu as a condition for peace.
All attempts made so far to resolve the crisis have not yielded positive results.
But on Thursday, Atiku re-affirmed his commitment to finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
He said: “What I can assure you is that we are determined to resolve those issues internally.
“There are not really fundamental disagreements, it is normal.”
The presidential candidate however urged that the provisions of the party’s constitution should be adhered to in resolving the issues internally.
Jibrin Steps Down As BOT Chairman
On Thursday, Senator Walid Jibrin stepped down as the chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) as part of efforts to restore peace in the party.
He was replaced by a former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara but Wike in his reaction, insisted on Ayu’s resignation.
I Am Not Trying To Destroy PDP
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has however stated that he has gotten over losing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primaries to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Speaking on Thursday, the Rivers State Governor said that phase is over and those who think his grouse with the PDP is because of the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries are sick and have mental problems.
He added that those who think he is the problem don’t understand what is happening and they have been deceived.
Naija News reports Wike made the statement during the commissioning of the Ahoada Campus of the State University of Science.
According to him, some people have accused him of trying to destroy the PDP because he lost the PDP primaries but that is totally untrue.
Instead, the Rivers State Governor said he is advocating for justice and trying to bring peace to the country.
