APC Is Playing With Fire!

By ONWUASOANYA FCC JONES

One of the biggest problems with our political leadership is not really the absence of patriotic leaders, but the dearth of men of ideas and intellect. Men and women who should be pushing wheelbarrow in Garki market somehow found their ways in the highest offices in the land and are leaving no doubts that they are in the wrong place in life.

How else do you describe what is happening in my Party, the APC, if not that the wrong people are calling the shots. If I call them idiots, some of my friends will chide me for being undiplomatic. So, I choose to refer to them as miscasts in political leadership.

Because most of them got to where they are through sheer luck, they don’t understand that political power is one of the most fragile things in life. They choose to play with fire, even when there are recent happenings that should have made them have sense. But, they are too lazy to think and the few thinkers around them have been pushed aside, because they are seen as showing too much “I too know”.

INEC’s advisory to the APC is actually worth a billion dollars and instead of following the advice, the riffraffs in power are busy exchanging words with INEC. If INEC wanted to be wickedly professional, they would have ignored your letter and refused to send any of its officers to witness your NEC meeting, and you would have continued fooling yourself until after your primaries or even the main election, you will wake up to find out that you have merely been messing around in the name of running a Party.

If what happened in Zamfara, Rivers and Bayelsa hasn’t taught this Party of ours any lessons, then, it is likely, the Party is programmed to go into extinction after Buhari. Even Bubu sef is tired of this our Party.

The Party leaders, no matter the side of the conspiracy they belong must understand the following or risk having the Party become a bad history in the annals of our politics;

  1. The APC convention CANNOT hold on the 26th of March as scheduled, except, Malam Buni remains the CECPC Chairman and the order barring the convention is vacated.
  2. Buni and Akpanudoedehe are like bad bones in the neck of the Party, and you must remove them with wisdom or risk been suffocated by them.
  3. President Buhari must show leadership, by stepping in to resolve the problems of the Party, or continue staying aloof and watch the Party become history.
  4. The best leadership the Party can experience at this moment is to find someone who has the courage to run the Party with courage and ensure that all legitimate interests are carried along, in a fair manner.
  5. The APC must become a political Party and stop being a collection of Parties. Until the Party does away with the ANPP, N-PDP, CPC, ACN, ROCHAS-APGA considerations in running its affairs, it will remain one bad experiment of a political association that never really took off.

If the Party pays me good money, I will give them five ideas on how it can hold a legally and politically safe convention, latest in May. But, if they don’t, I will simply sit back and enjoy the drama. After all, my President has warned that; “if we don’t put our house in order, the opposition will take over”.
