Alleged Quackery: NBC Sanctions Nonsonkwa, Ozisa FM

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has suspended Theodore Chinonso Uba a.k.a. Nonsonkwa, a popular Owerri-based radio presenter over gross unprofessional conduct on air.

Ozisa FM, his place of work was also sanctioned for failing to check the excesses of the presenter who was notorious for making unsubstantiated claims on air.

Sources within the NBC told this reporter that NonsoNkwa will only return to the microphone if he completes a six-month professional training course and submits a certificate of completion to the Commission.

Checks further reveal that the Commission had previously cautioned the station over the activities of NonsoNkwa which it views as quackery, yet the station paid deaf ears.

“The issue is that the complaints and petitions have become too numerous. We took a close look and realized that the person in question was even a quack. So, the Commission was too lenient to have mandated him to go on training. Such unethical conduct is capable of tarnishing the credibility of broadcasting in Nigeria”, said a source.

Ozisa FM management has tried to play down the suspension claiming the presenter was sent on a short three-week course.

Mr Uba himself announced on Facebook that he was proceeding on a one-month training hence his on-air absence since Friday.

But sources say the National Broadcasting Commission had been inundated with petitions from individuals and institutions who have either been maligned or defamed by the presenter yet the station failed to act despite repeated warnings from the Commission.

Ozisa FM is owned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.
