Rochas Okorocha Is Conscious Of His Acts

-Fall For It At Your Own Peril

by Dr Paul Ezeafurukwe

Since yesterday I have been numbed by the profound show put up by former Governor Rochas Okorocha, for nine whole hours, all in a bid to forestall his arrest by the operatives of EFCC and sincerely I think Rochas and anybody who must have written a script, well played out, deserves the Oscars. The quick mobilisation of the women singing his praises and the prayers inside his house couldn’t fall below a good plot but it seems the part of his eventual arrest was either not well detailed or an inevitable end.

Rochas Okorocha is aware of various allegations, cases bordering on corruption before the federal high court by the EFCC and instead of addressing these issues decided to go behind to obtain court injunctions restraining EFCC from carrying out their functions. It is surprising how a man who flouted several court orders against him, when he was the Governor of Imo State, can go back to seek refuge from the same court he has disparaged.

Before we begin to empathise with Okorocha in his fictional character, let us critique the event that took place at his Maitama residence.

The operatives of the EFCC had stormed his residence after he had turned down every request of the anti-graft agency to appear for questioning, Okorocha saw the security operatives, admittedly, he knew they were officers of the EFCC, yet refused to open his door or even acknowledge the reason for their visit instead he hurriedly went online via his social media handles to raise alarm and kept the officers loitering around his compound till they eventually had their way in and arrested him. It is “ingress and egress” and the law permits it.

A man who has nothing to hide definitely has nothing to be afraid of especially the EFCC. Okorocha knows he has alot of skeletons in his cupboard and most conspicuous is the 2.9bn looted by his administration in Imo State. The truth is that Okorocha is not a saint as well as his fellow politicians but most of them had acted smarter by going to answer calls from EFCC and came back as celebrated heroes and heroines but for him a showman, he needs to use every opportunity to display even to dance naked under the rain just for clout.

A retrospective look at the Okorocha’s 8years administration in Imo State is like an open wound which can’t heal easily. Okorocha and his cronies as well as family members raped Imo State of her common patrimony with reckless abandon and in fact it was so bad and likened to the situation of the Israelites in captivity by Pharaoh. Okorocha’s administration was characterised by looting, land grabbing, substandard roads, non payment of pension/salaries, Executive rascality, political victimisation and witch-hunt and crippling the economy of the State, yet parade’s himself as saint.

The evil that men do lives with and after them and more so, it is like Rochas Okorocha is paying for his atrocities. It is retributive justice that for every evil one does, he or she must pay for it and it is unfortunate that karma decided to strike when it matters the most in his political career and let no one accuse anybody of Okorocha’s predicament after all he brought home the ant infested firewood and now the lizards have come to dinner

If Okorocha is pointing at his perceived enemies either from the Presidency or within his party as trying to use EFCC and the crime he committed to dislodge him and his Southeast Presidential interest then he should be reminded that the likes of Emeka Nwajiuba, Dave Umahi, Ken Nnamani and Ogbonnaya Onu are in the Presidential race and equally seeking for a President of Southeast extraction, yet nobody is victimizing or witch-hunting them. Even those of Igbo extraction in the opposition PDP are busy canvassing for support untainted and without any harassment. I am sure if any of them have issues with the EFCC they must’ve availed themselves to trash it out once and for all without putting up drama here and there.

Rochas Okorocha should look away from political undertone, as he has christened his arrest and seek for possible ways to first of all face head-on his criminal charges and once that is settled then we can begin to see clearly if there are actions against his Presidential interest or not rather than crying foul each time EFCC comes for him.

Okorocha sees himself battle ready to clinch the APC Presidential ticket despite the obvious fact that his interest is neither here nor there but since he seems to be ready, he shouldn’t start throwing sands now over his arrest but quickly return all that he stole from Imolites and maybe then can he stand tall amongst his contemporaries.

Meanwhile lasisi has something to say about this issue
