Onyewuchi, Onyeagucha, Maduka jostle for 324 Owerri delegates

Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri

Ahead of thursday’s Peoples Democratic Party primary election in Imo East ( Owerri zone), the incumbent lawmaker, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, immediate past secretary to the state government, Uche Onyeagucha, and an oil mogul, Basil Maduka are jostling for no few than 324 delegates.

The election which takes place at the Kanu Nwankwo stadium in Owerri, is a tight contest for the three aspirants who are in last minutes engagements to win more delegates.

While pundits thought that it was going to be two man battle between Onyewuchi and Onyeagucha, many are surprised at the strings Maduka, an oil magnet was pulling.

A source said ” at first we thought it is going to be a two horse race between Senator Ezenwa Onyewuchi and Hon Uche Onyeagucha but Basil Maduka, an oil magnet has taken the bull by the horns. He is closing in very seriously.

” You know he is new but he is waxing strongly. He has the capital, the contacts and moreover he is from Mbaise. These give him a lot of advantage.

” Onyewuchi and Onyeagucha will share the delegates in Owerri Federal Constituency because they are from Owerri but will jostle for votes in Mbaike but in all it is going to be tough contest. It is not going to be a walk in the pack for the incumbent senator.”
