Peter Obi Extols The Virtues Of Tafawa Balewa For Borrowing For Production

By Tai Emeka Obasi.

HE Peter Obi has commended the former Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa as an example of a Nigerian leader who was genuinely interested in the future of her citizens.

Speaking beside the tomb of the former Nigerian leader, the PDP presidential aspirant recalled that the first loan Nigeria borrowed was in 1964 by the first and only prime minister of the country, who requested from World Bank a sum of $82 million to finance the building of the gigantic Kainji Dam, one of the longest in the world.

The dam at Kainji Island was supposed to generate 760 megawatts of electricity to light up Nigeria and spur economic development. It was described then as the most ambitious project by Nigeria.

The former two-term governor of Anambra State, who has been preaching for the leaders of his dear country to only borrow for production instead of borrowing for consumption, extolled the patriotic efforts of our first democratic leader as an independent nation, who led the train of development by borrowing for production.

The visit to the tomb of the great Nigerian leader in Bauchi State was part of his itinerary in his on-going consultation tour of the Northern states in line with his aspiration to not only get his party’s ticket but also win the general election that will see him become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

His tour on Sunday, May 8, 2022 saw him visit delegates from Bauchi, Borno, Yobe and Gombe States.

The brand is truly spreading.
