Zoning: Like Okorocha, like Ihedioha
By Chimuanya Nosiri
One of the high points of Rt Hon Emeka Ihedioha’s campaign in 2019 was zoning.
There was enormous clamour for Owerri zone to produce the next governor of Imo State, for the sake of fairness and justice.
On the other hand, Okorocha was the ambassador for anti-zoning as he hoped to install his son-in-law Uche Nwosu, as a way to stop the probes which he is facing today.
Uche Nwosu’s only misfortune was that he came from Orlu zone, the same zone as Okorocha.
Had Nwosu or Okorocha’s second son-in-law come from Owerri zone, Okorocha would also have championed zoning in 2019 and might even have succeeded in succeeding himself with a family member who can cover up his misrule.
Today, for personal political reasons, both men seem to be singing different songs.
While Ihedioha seems to back the decision by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP against zoning probably because he stands a chance of being picked as a Vice Presidential candidate, if Tambuwal or even Atiku gets the ticket, Okorocha on the other hand is calling for zoning of the APC ticket to the South East, as he stands a better chance to become the party’s candidate, if the party makes such a decision.
This goes to show the mindset of politicians we throw ourselves at.
While we get carried away by their ideologies of the moment, they change like chameleons to wherever ideologies their personal political interests are favoured by.
