2023: Why Imo PCC DG, Greg Egu is Mobilizing Market Women, Traders, Artisans For Atiku Abubakar

PART ONE

By Ikenna ONUOHA, Mnipr

Ahead of the February 25th 2023 Presidential elections in Nigeria, politicians are beginning to device viable strategies and formidable options to galvanize votes for both their parties and candidates.

While others continue to recycle old layers of same individuals within the party, rented crowed or defined audience for political sensitization, the Director General of PDP Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) in Imo State, Hon Greg Egu is busy reaching out to real, genuine and unbiased electorates like market women, community leaders, trader unions, artisans, Keke/motorcycle operators, Hausa and Yoruba communities respectively for PDP and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

This is to avoid passing same message to same people who are either members of his party or sympathizers of the party contrary to the norm that an identified supporter needs no conviction. One remarkable thing about the reach outs is that, majority of those being sensitized are either new converts or genuine sympathizers of the party’s cause.

The Director General of Imo PDP PCC, Hon Egu, a onetime House of Representatives member for Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala federal constituency, a reputable personality with impeccable recognition is doing his best in collaboration with leaders of various PDP political structures to market the party’s image.

In a bid to woo Imo people towards believing in the party’s Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar with a view to changing their perception, the Imo PCC team embarked on a crucial rally at the popular Alaba International Market, and Relief Market, Owerri to preach the message of good governance and virile political partnership between the traders and PDP.

Surprisingly, such rally that would have turned to mere road walk as presumed by mischief makers suddenly became a well embraced carnival by the traders who out of excitement joined the Imo PCC team to convince their colleagues to think towards PDP and its Presidential candidates.

What is remarkable here is that, despite the fact that majority of those clamoring for the candidature of a Presidential candidate from the South East are traders, the PCC outing at Alaba market showed that those championing that ideology only exist in theory while working for the Presidential candidate of PDP practically.

It is therefore worthy of note that few months he was appointed the Director General of PDP Imo PCC, Hon Egu has not rested in his oars but has continued assiduously to champion the cause and ensured that such healthy message of economic boost penetrates to every nook and crannies of the state and beyond.

This, he has done through a robust and viable strategy of reaching out to the main people desirous of speedy political change; that is, the market women, community leaders, trade unions, artisans, keke and motorcycle operators.

No doubt, what is making this vision sellable and acceptable is believed to have anchored on the notion that Imo is a PDP state where the indigenes believe in the party’s capacity for service delivery.

Hon Greg Egu is not doing this alone, but is prominently working along with leaders and members of PDP who are doing their best to ensure the victory of PCC. Those among his team are: Hon Ngozi Ogbu, Amb Chuks Ajaelu, Dr Emeka Onyema, Lolo Edith Nwachi, and Comrade Kingsley Egbechue, among other critical leaders of the party in the state.

While Hon Egu’s Imo PCC team remains the envy of others is due to his open door administrative policy, separation of powers/duties, including respect to human person and dignity. Another turn on is that Hon Egu is not a green horn, but an experienced political maverick.

The Presidential candidate of PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar will be the happiest person to have appointed Hon Egu in that capacity, who is believed to be a round peg in a round hole.

The presence of Hon Egu in everything that concerns PDP and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as regards to the 2023 elections is surmounting the whole political hiccups that had hoodwinked and undermined the chances of PDP to victory in the state.

Happily, the level of ovation and social ecstasy that greeted the mammoth crowed of market women, community leaders, traders unions, artisans, keke and motorcycle operators at the rally is an indication that the future of PDP is much more brighter to win the 2023 polls in Imo state.
