₦1.9bn Debt: Group Accuse former Deputy governor of trying to loot public funds
A rights group, Imo Coalition For Justice, Peace and True Democracy have kicked against what it termed, an attempt to corner ₦1.9 Billion of Imo State fund by former Governor Rochas Okorocha’s administration through the former Deputy governor, Prince Eze Madumere.
The group protested along the streets of Owerri today, brandishing placards and banners, in protest of the continued face-off between the former Deputy governor and the Imo State government, which had resulted in the sealing off of all Zenith bank branches in Imo State.
Madumere obtained a court ruling, awarding him ₦1.9bn, being his entitlements in the 9months Okorocha tried to remove him from office through impeachment.
The state government has insisted that the matter had been appealed but by virtue of the ruling, the account of the state, which is housed with Zenith Bank, has been inoperable, causing the nonpayment of salaries and pensions for the month of May.
